Let’s Stop Gas Together
Join us as we come together, share ideas, learn and protest against the fossil fuel industry – all self-organised!

May 24th – June 2nd
Together against Gas
The Hammer Climate Camp will take place at Lippepark in Hamm from May 24th (Sunday) until June 2nd (Thursday).

Why this camp?
Fossil fuels such as oil and gas are exacerbating the climate crisis and global conflicts, destroying the environment, are expensive, and make us dependent on autocrats. Although climate-friendly solutions are available, the German government, together with fossil fuel corporations, is doing everything in its power to prolong fossil fuel business models. Those who suffer are the people here locally, but above all worldwide, as well as the environment and the climate. To combat this fossil fuel madness, we are sending a clear message for climate justice and for a social energy and heating transition with the Hamm Climate Camp!
Economics Minister Reiche is not only stifling the expansion of climate-friendly renewable energies; she is also deliberately pushing for the massive expansion of fossil gas. She wants to allow new gas-fired power stations to be built, particularly in southern Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia. This includes the area around Hamm, where several fossil fuel power stations are currently planned.
In Hamm, resistance to the gas industry has a long history: ten years ago, committed local people successfully prevented energy companies from drilling for gas here. We will not accept the new gas projects from RWE & Co. either!
Located in the immediate vicinity of existing and planned fossil fuel power stations, the Hamm Climate Camp aims to be a place where the climate movement can come together, discuss alternatives to the fossil-fuel-based capitalist economy, develop political and action-oriented strategies, and voice its protest against the German government’s fossil fuel agenda.
The Hamm Climate Camp is registered as a political assembly. It is organised by volunteer activists and is not affiliated with any political group or organisation.
What’s happening and when?
From 27 May (Wednesday) to 30 May (Saturday), there will be a packed programme of workshops, networking, skill-sharing sessions and cultural events.
We also invite you to the camp in the days leading up to it (from 24 May) and afterwards (until 2 June), as we need your help with setting up and dismantling. We see this as just as much a part of the camp as all the tasks required to keep the camp running: cooking, cleaning and various other shifts. We want to make the camp a place where utopia is lived out, where we organise ourselves and live together on a grassroots, non-exchange basis and on a voluntary basis – with everything that goes with it!
How to get there
The camp takes place at Lippepark Hamm.
Address: Schachtstraße, 59077 Hamm
Hamm main station is approximately 5 km away. From there, city buses on route 1, 7 and 9 run every 20 to 30 minutes.
With the bus from route 1 you have to go from the stop Hbf./Willy-Brand-Platz towards August-Bebel-Str. and get off at the Isenbecker Hof stop. Then you walk a short distance further in the direction of travel until you see the camp on your right. Note: The Willy-Brand-square is heavily surveilled with cameras.
With the bus route 7 or 9 you go from the bus stop Bhf./August-Thyssen-Straße towards Herringer Markt and get off at the stop Albert-Funk-Straße. Then you walk a short distance in the opposite way of the direction of travel and turn right into the park (Andreas-Schillack-Weg). At the first crossroad you take a left and follow the path (Seilfahrt Schacht Franz) until you get to the next crossroad. There you take a right and should find the camp behind the wall.
Would you like to travel here on a protest bike ride? OKNB is organising a ride from Hamburg (16 May) via various stops to the camp! A second ride organised by De Luchtfietsers starts on 23 May in Rotterdam. More info on their Website and Instagram.
For travel information regarding the demonstration or the Ende Gelände actions, please check the relevant pages.
Accessibility
We aim to be as accessible as possible in every respect.
- The campsite is accessible to wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are available.
- Attendance at the camp is free of charge, but we do ask for donations. As a guide, a contribution of €15 per day would be appreciated. However, this is by no means compulsory. If you are unable to contribute, that is perfectly fine.
- There will be quiet spaces available.
- An awareness team is on hand to help in the event of problems or conflicts.
- Workshops, plenary sessions, etc. will be translated into several languages. Where there is no organised translation, we will try to find people to provide spontaneous whispered translation.
- If you have any questions regarding accessibility, please contact barrierearm-auf-dem-camp@systemli.org or +4915216387207.
Additional Information on Accessible Travel
Take Line 1 from the Hbf. / Willy-Brand-Platz (main exit of the train station) toward August-Bebel-Str. and get off at the Isenbecker Hof stop. Then walk a short distance in the direction of travel until you see the camp on your right. Note: Willy-Brand-Platz is heavily monitored by security cameras.
Take Line 7 or 9 from the Bhf./August-Thyssen-Straße stop (west exit of the station) toward Herringer Markt and get off at the Albert-Funk-Straße stop. Then walk against the direction of travel and turn right into the park (Andreas-Schillack-Weg). Turn left at the first intersection and follow the path (Seilfahrt Schacht Franz) to the next intersection. Turn right there, and you should find the camp behind the embankment.
Accessibility information:
The current status of the elevators at the train station can be viewed at https://www.bahnhof.de/en/hamm-westf-hbf/elevator.
Bus 1: Hamm Hbf – Isenbecker Hof, approximately 200-meter walk
Bus 7, 9: Neue Bahnhofstraße – Albert-Funk-Straße, approximately 500-meter walk, though over a small hill
The buses have a wheelchair space. Unfortunately, there is no experience in Hamm regarding whether multiple wheelchairs can be accommodated. The buses have fold-out ramps.
The “Bahnhof” and “Neue Bahnhofstraße” stops have been adapted to bus level, but the stops for getting off have not. However, the “Isenbecker Hof” stop is much more convenient, and the walk there is flatter.

Get involved
We’re organising the camp together! Please come along to help with setting up and packing down, and get involved during the programme period – for example, by running activities or taking on tasks to keep the camp running smoothly. We need people to help in the kitchen, man the information point, clean the toilets and washbasins, and take on night watch duties.
For most of these tasks, rota sheets will be displayed at the information point, which you can sign up for. You will then receive instructions and the equipment you need for the tasks.
If you’d like to sign up for specific tasks in advance, please use the Helfitool. We’re delighted that Ende Gelände has made their tool available to us for this purpose.
If you can offer a bed to people who can’t sleep at the camp, we’d be grateful if you could add your offer to the bed exchange, which will be linked here in the next few days.

Camp ABC
Alcohol and other drugs: The sleeping areas and designated zones (e.g. near the kitchen) must be completely drug-free. Please do not consume illegal drugs at the camp. Further details will follow.
Allergies: As a general rule, the kitchen takes allergies into account as standard. Experience shows that it is best to clarify this directly with the kitchen on site. There will be information sheets available and two kitchen staff members on hand who will be clearly visible. If you wish to discuss specific allergies with the kitchen in advance, please feel free to contact us at contact@lesabot.org
Registration: You do not need to register for the camp! Please visit the information point on arrival for all the latest details. To get a rough estimate the amount of people we’ll be happy if you fill out the registration form.
Accessibility: see the ‘Accessibility’ section
Bed exchange: If for any reason you cannot sleep at the camp, there is a bed exchange here for sleeping arrangements. There, you can enter what you’re looking for in terms of a place to sleep and search for offers posted by others. If you live in Hamm and can offer a place to sleep, we’d be delighted if you could add your offer to the bed exchange.
Showers: There will be a small number of showers, but the facilities are not sufficient to allow everyone to shower every day.
Costs: Participation in the camp is free of charge, but we do ask for donations. As a guide, an amount of €15 per day (including food) would be appreciated. However, this is by no means compulsory. If you are unable to contribute financially, that is absolutely fine.
Kitchen: There will be delicious vegan meals. Please help with chopping, washing up, etc.! Duty rosters will be displayed at the information point.
Toilets: Some of the toilets are for peeing (Places2Pee), while the others are for pooping. In some Places2Pee, there will be facilities for cleaning menstrual cups.
Quiet: Please be considerate of participants and local residents. Part of the campsite will be designated as a quiet area. There will be a quiet tent and other places to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the camp. In the evenings, we ask for quiet in the sleeping areas.
Fresh water: Is available. In principle, the water comes from the city’s drinking water supply, but we cannot guarantee that this water at the camp is of drinking water quality.
Smoking: Please only smoke outside of the camp area or at the crépe stall.
Organiser: The Hammer Climate Camp is organised by volunteer activists and is not affiliated with any political group or organisation.
Further events
During the camp, there will be further events in Hamm and the surrounding area focusing on climate change and gas:
30 May, 12 noon: ‘Zukunft statt Gas’ demonstration – (The demonstration will take place near the camp and there will be a group walk or similar to get there.)
28–30 May: Mass action by Ende Gelände
Registration
You don’t have to register for the camp, but it helps us estimate how many people to plan for, how much food to cook, and so on.
Donations
We would be very grateful for any donations towards the camp!
